As we continue to read the Lorax we are practicing onomatopoeia. Dr. Seuss likes to use onomatopoeia in his books. Onomatopoeia is a word that describes sound. For example, moo. Moo is a word that describes the sound a cow makes. Here are some examples:
flush, honk sizzle, and knock
Did you forget to flush the toilet? Honk your horn. I love the sound of bacon sizzling. Someone is knocking on the door
We played a game where we read a quote from the book and replaced words with onomatopoeia. Then we read it again making the sounds instead of reading the words.
